Those who watch my videos have seen my SubDecay Octasynth many times ... but never heard it yet. So, here’s a video to celebrate it big time ... before it will have to leave my board and make way for a Chase Bliss Condor. It will be missed!
00:00 - Intro (with Mooer Phaser and Strymon Timeline)
00:25 - Saturday Night (with Akai Force)
02:39 - Overview
03:17 - The octave generator
04:07 - The envelope filter
06:07 - More sounds
07:12 - Welcome to the Machine
The SubDecay Octasynth is a monophonic analog guitar synthesizer pedal. It combines two circuits: An octave generator, than converts the guitar signal to a rather clean (compared e. g. with the Earthquaker Devices Bit Commander pedal which has a similar concept) square wave, plus square waves one and two octaves below the original pitch. And a envelope controlled lowpass filter with resonance. The Octasynth is sometimes a bit hard to control (for me, it works best with a compressor in front), but once you manage, you can get great Moog-ish tones out of it.
1973 Fender Stratocaster into pedal board into Real Guitars Leo 2×10" Combo (tweed 5E4A Super Amp clone) and Vintage Sound Amps Vintage 15 (Princeton Reverb Clone w/ 12" Jensen speaker). Also, Akai Force adding drums on “Saturday Night”.
Rockboard Stage pedal board powered by Truetone CS-12. Disaster Area DMC 3XL Gen1, Dimehead patch and switching box, Boss ES-5, Prostage Remote Wah Wah, Sonuus Voluum, Mooer Ninety Orange Phaser, Line6 M5, Strymon Timeline. (Also contains JDM Tonemaster and Kingsley Minstrel v2, both not used in this video.)
Recorded live through Sennheiser 421 and e606 mics through a RME Babyface Pro into Cubase 9. Filmed with a Canon 650D and a Sony RX100, edited in Premiere CS6.
