IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi inaugurated by Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed Al Nahyan. This is the second overseas IIT campus, after the IIT Madras campus in Tanzania that opened in 2023. The third overseas IIT campus may be coming up in Sri Lanka. The foreign expansion of the IITs was initiated in 2022. The initiative is reminiscent of the educational traditions of ancient India, where universities like Nalanda attracted students from around the world, and Indian teachers were invited abroad to spread their teachings.
