Here is the 72-year old MV Saginaw on a foggy and rainy afternoon on Friday, June 27th 2025 with a load of grain that they loaded in Thunder Bay Ontario. She would take this load of grain down to Toledo Ohio.
Whenever I am in the soo, I always mention a ship locking through the Soo Locks, but I rarely actually film them going though the locks. There are numerus reasons why I refrain from recording in the locks, but the Saginaw took the Macarthur Lock, which means a close view of the ship.
Normally, ships take the Poe Lock because they are too large for the Macarthur Lock. The Poe Lock is much further away from the viewing area so filming isn't the greatest. But the Saginaw is small enough to go though the smaller lock. So this was a great opportunity to film a ship locking though the Soo Locks and get some great photos!
A couple other ships make their appearance in the video as well, first we see the G3 Marquis upbound in the Poe lock. They were heading to Thunder Bay to load grain. Also the classic lake boat MV Lee A. Tregurtha makes an appearance waiting below the Poe Lock gates. She was waiting for the G3 Marquis to leave the lock and for the lock to get drained so she could enter. The Lee A. Tregurtha was on her way to Marquette to load Iron Ore.
