There was indeed an 8-bit de-make of Earthworm Jim at the height of the character's popularity, though it's heavily stripped down, and in my opinion, it doesn't push the system's capabilities like its 16-bit counterpart does, especially in the sound department.
This series aims to recreate the entire soundtrack of the original game as faithfully as possible, while also taking into consideration the limitations of the Sega Master System's sound chip (3 square channels and 1 noise channel, with very little in the way of bass tones).
