While there has been an extensive focus on the implications of urban design for disability, including accessible buildings, public spaces and infrastructure, interventions to make built environments disability inclusive tend not to focus on the city-wide scale and wider processes of urban planning. At the same time, planning for inclusive cities requires that Persons with Disabilities (PWD) are active in urban governance processes and structures. This discussion will explore strategies and advocacy for city-wide inclusive development, and efforts to support PWD’s citizenship practices and their active involvement in city development processes.
