I flew Qatar Airways from Doha to Zanzibar and spent my first 5 days at the Marafiki Bungalows Resort in Kiwengwa Zanzibar. It was a pleasure to relax by the pool and enjoy the ocean view. I also enjoyed using kayaks to paddle out to sea and catch a few small waves. The food was delicious and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel helped me organise tours at good prices and I only had to pay the hotel during check out. The pool was refreshing and the sea boasts a variety of marine life to snorkel with. The hotel accepts cash and card payment which was very helpful. You can even have a massage and enjoy the ocean view. It was breathtaking to watch the moon rise over the ocean at night . There is a free shuttle service to Kiwengwa Beach where you can swim in the sea, eat a restaurant, take kite surfing lessons and have boat rides. The hotel lets you hire a bicycle free of charge to ride to the beach front or into town. The hotel is very close to an ATM , about a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive . YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY IN DOLLARS for everything you can withdraw in Tanzanian Shillings and pay with the local currency. It’s better to pay things with local currency because when I tried to pay in dollars they often did not have enough change. But I would recommend this lovely hotel resort on a private beach for family, couples and solo travellers The Moja Tuu Luxury Villas and Nature Resort. This hotel is one of the most beautiful I have ever stayed in. The 2 bedroom Villa had an Arabic design to it with two capacious bedrooms both en suite. The villa also included a private swimming pool which was well maintained and boasted breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. It was incredible to watch the full moon rise over the horizon and reflect on the calm sea. The food in this hotel was delicious and we ate everything served at the buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hotel obtains a large swimming pool for all guests and quick access to a private beach. I would highly recommend wearing waterproof shoes when entering this beach because the beach has sharp coral and sea urchins. However if guests want to visit the public beach of Kiwenga Zanzibar the hotel offers a free shuttle service to the public beach. Guests can even lay out on the recliners at a selected restaurant on the beach . The beach has activities such as snorkelling , kite surfing and jet ski hiring . The hotel is very helpful with organising tours however they do not always take credit card payment methods but the shuttle service will drive you to the nearest 24/7 ATM to draw local Tanzanian Shillings which is accepted as a payment method but you will need to keep the shillings in a bag because of the high exchange rate. We went to Mnemba Island and snorkelled with bottle nose dolphins . The dolphin are a bit intoxicated from pufferfish chemicals and as a result the dolphins swam very close to us feeling happy and relaxed. We also took a quad bike tour around the farmlands of Zanzibar and visited a local community. Stone Town was a very interesting and rich history about Zanzibar. Sandies Baobab Beach Hotel. This is a beautiful hotel resort in Nungwi Zanzibar. The beach boasts beautiful coral reefs filled with life. Guests can enjoy organised activities at the hotel resort such as morning exercises , yoga , waterpolo and volleyball. It’s all inclusive with a variety of European and Zanzibar cuisine choices . The restaurant is built directly on the beach. If you have the all inclusive package you can get tea and coffee at the pool bar free of charge as well as sodas and bottled water. The rooms provide fresh water and you can request a bar fridge from reception. The rooms are provided with air conditioning systems to keep the bedrooms cool and the rooms have an outdoor balcony with a natural bush to give guests some sort of privacy. Guests have direct access to the beach where they can enjoy activities such as swimming , horse riding , kitesurfing and scuba diving . Activities at the hotel include snooker, waterpolo , exercise, yoga and volleyball. If there is a party occurring there are pamphlets placed on the beach staircase of when and where the party will take place. The sunsets at these resorts are simply breathtaking.
