Athassel Abbey
Is the remains of a large Augustinian priory that was enclosed by a boundary wall covering 4 acres. The buildings are roofless and sections and stones from walls are missing.
Situated a short distance south of Golden village near Cashel in county Tipperary. on the bank of the river Sure in rural farmland.
Access is from a local road over a style beside a gate and through a grass field with cattle.
It was built 800 years ago and abandoned and left to ruin 500 years ago in1537.
Drone footage and 3D animation shows present state and what the abbey would have looked like
Holycross Abbey near Thurles was in a similar state and was restored in 1970.
