C1/107/Aygo - Upgrading to a leather steering wheel

In today’s video, I’m upgrading to a leather steering wheel from a later model of C1. I figured that if I’m going to be spending time in it, I might as well add a little touch of luxury and start adding some leather bits and pieces to make my stay a little bit more enjoyable.

This wheel was purchased from Ash at Jelly Snake Motorsport at what is always a bargain price, so thanks Ash! The best part is that it is completely plug and play. To install it, I disconnected the battery and left the car to discharge for ten minutes, while I got my tools together. Once I’d gotten back to the car, I unscrewed the captive Torx screws (T30) from both sides of the steering wheel and unseated the air bag. Using a pick, I unclipped the airbag squib wire and the horn wire, then removing the airbag. Once that was out, I used a 19mm deep socked on my impact gun and undid the steering wheel retaining nut, but leaving it on the last few threads, so you don’t smash yourself in the face when you pull the steering wheel off. Remove the nut, remove the wheel and you’re ready to install the new wheel. Installation is the reverse of removal. Re-fit the battery terminals and start the car, make sure there are no warning lights.
