These Sketchbook Prompts Work Every Time!

Try these sketchbook prompts using collage! Collage is a great way to get started in your sketchbook, and can prompt you to experiment and try new approaches in your sketchbook. Your sketchbook is a wonderful "sand box" where you can play with technique you don't usually use. Demo led by Teaching Artists Jordan McCracken-Foster and Lauryn Welch.

SKETCHBOOK PROMPTS
#1: Cut out 3 shapes from any paper: 1 oval and 2 triangles
#2: Build an image on top of a sheet of patterned paper.
#3: Cut up an old artwork, and use every piece of it in a collage

Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China.
