On my afternoon walk, I found myself asking a hard question: Why do so many Americans die alone, while Filipinos rarely do?
I share the story of a 92-year-old man in Ukraine, living in the mountains with only his prayers for company, and compare it to what I witnessed in U.S. nursing homes - elders passing with no family nearby. In the Philippines, it’s different. Family ties stay strong. Loved ones walk with you, even to the very end.
