The M51 "Skysweeper" anti-aircraft gun was developed by the U.S. Army in 1948 and was the first to integrate radar, analog computer, and automatic loading system on a single carriage. Although large-caliber anti-aircraft guns were becoming less popular, the M51 served as a supplement to air defense missiles and was used by the U.S. military and provided to foreign countries until the 1970s.
