Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich her | BWV 606 | J. S. Bach (1685-1750)

For the First Advent Sunday, we hear today a small work from Bach's organ book: "Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich her" (BWV 606).
If you work your way through the recordings of great organists, you will find this work in the full range of registrations - from gentle flute stops to recordings "in organo pleno". I actually experimented a lot as to which registration would be appropriate for today's recording. For a performance at the First Advent Sunday it should not be too powerful or even penetrating. But it should also hold something heavenly in itself, bright and clear tones. Therefore, my registration is based on 8' and 4' flutes, topped by a very gentle mixture borrowed from the positive and a modest 2' superoctave. The pedal should also lay a firm foundation, but not stand out too much. I hope I succeeded and wish my meanwhile more than 100 YouTube subscribers a happy First Advent Sunday!

I recommend listening to this recording with high quality speakers or headphones to pick out subtle details like the response of the (virtual) pipes and micro detunings.
