“Kohaku River,” from the musical "Spirited away" (2025) by Lorenzo Fiorentini, inspired by the film of the same name by Hayao Miyazaki.
Lyrics:
Chihiro:
Haku, listen...
Something came back to me, a distant memory...
When I was little, so long ago,
I lost a shoe in the river...
Chihiro:
I was just a child... My shoe slipped away,
And I fell into the water, trying to catch it,
I thought I would drown, but...
The river carried me to the shore.
Chihiro:
The river had a name,
It was the Kohaku River!
Maybe that was you, Haku... Were you that river?
Haku:
Yes, Chihiro!
I was the spirit of the Kohaku River,
But I had lost my name...
Now, thanks to you, I’m free!
Chihiro:
So... You saved me, Haku?
Were you the one who brought me to shore that day?
Haku:
You were so small, so scared.
And I remember your little pink shoe...
Chihiro:
So... That’s why we met,
We saved each other,
We’re free again... Together!
Haku & Chihiro together:
Now we’re flying, above the skies of this world,
The wind cradles us, there will never be a final goodbye;
One day we’ll meet once more,
And the wind will guide us again...
