Hiking El Capitan (Base and Summit)

Looming over 3,000 feet above Yosemite Valley, the mighty El Capitan is one of the park's most prominent features. Although scaling its granite walls is the ultimate dream of many rock climbers, El Capitan does not seem to be a very popular hiking destination. To complete my Yosemite valley bucket list hikes, I found my way to the base of El Capitan and then took a lesser-known 20-mile, 2,800' high trail to stand on the summit. Is this brutal hike worth it? Or is there a reason so few choose to take on this challenge?
