Electric vehicle (EV) adoption is accelerating rapidly worldwide, and the need for high-fidelity hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing platforms is increasing. The RTDS Simulator enables the simulation of the EV powertrain in real time, which allows for HIL testing of related control systems.
A new, fully-documented sample case available in our RSCAD FX software focuses on modelling the powertrain architecture of an EV. Major components include typical controller design (field-oriented control with field weakening and MTPA), Lithium-ion battery, DC-DC and DC-AC converters, electric motor, and a dynamic longitudinal model representing the vehicle's speed and acceleration considering various applied forces. Our new flux-defined synchronous machine component offers highly detailed motor representation, including spatial harmonics and cogging torques. Applying this model to HIL testing can significantly reduce the cost and timeline of EV powertrain design.
The case can be used for HIL testing of EV control systems such as the battery management system or motor drive control. This webinar will include theory on real-time electromagnetic transient (EMT) modelling the EV powertrain - including detailed power electronics - and a demonstration of the case in the RSCAD FX software. Participants will have the opportunity for a live Q&A with presenters.
