Keighley & Worth Valley Railway 'Western Takeover' Spring Steam Gala 2024

A weekend that always goes in the diary is the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway's 'Spring Steam Gala' in March. This year, the line payed host to two visiting GWR 4-6-0s along side it's sizable operational home fleet.

Visiting from the Great Central Railway, GWR Modified Hall 6990 'Witherslack Hall' would star along side GWR Castle 4079 'Pendennis Castle' as the latter continues its tour of the UK from it's home at Didcot Railway Centre, as it celebrates it's 100th Birthday in 2024.

Both of these loco's were accompanied by a popular home fleet of engines including celebrity LMS Jubilee 45596 'Bahamas' and many more. The total of 9 Locomotives would operated an intensive timetable of Goods trains, local and express passenger, with lots of interesting double header combinations throughout the weekend.

As always, it was a fantastic show by the KWVR, a big shout out to the gala organisers for their hard work and the volunteers for their efforts to run a brilliant event. Despite the wind and constant battle with the sun, it was all in all a wonderful weekend. Hope ypu enjoy!
