It's only a vocal warm-up (but I like it)

A vocal warm-up is more than a warm-up. It's also a safe space for new voice experiments that I'll keep referring subscribers of my new online singing course to
(https://singwell.eu/online-singing-co...)
Although my course is fundamentally different from what is out there in some important ways, my warm-up is not really.
I mean, I have tweaked and perfected it for myself and my students, in the course of years. Yet, there are quite a few similar warm-ups on YouTube.
In case you already use a warm-up, check if it follows these key principles:
1. It has a bodywork/breathing/stretching part.
It gets the body open and gets the breath free.
2. It is gradual.
Usually starting with a hum like a mm or a rolled r, or a lip trill. Then it works its way up to vowels. The same thing goes for the range, which is limited in the beginning.
3. It's easy to follow.
You understand the instructions, and you feel like you can sing along easily.
Why is warm-up even important? It almost goes without saying but many of us are lazy about it.
In essence: you do things you want to do on a smaller scale. It's bodywork, it's like any sport. Have you seen an athlete go into the race without warming up?
How long should a warm-up take? You have to test the waters, see how you feel on that day. Does after a minute or ten your body feel open, the sounds ok? Or do you still feel stuck? Then prolong the warm-up.
Important if you don't have a lot of time: Do the warm-up instead of a song. It's important to get the muscles to do basic stuff instead of more advanced, if you have to make a choice.
