Brooklyn-based Alex Skolnick Trio (AST) has released the electrifying title track from their forthcoming sixth LP, "Prove You’re Not a Robot," out November 17, 2025 via Flatiron Recordings. Known for fearlessly blurring the lines between jazz improvisation, rock intensity, and adventurous composition, AST’s latest single encapsulates the themes of the album: human connection in an age of technological dominance, the irreplaceability of spontaneous creation, and the absurd humor of everyday digital life.
The song arrives with a playful yet pointed video directed by Frankie Fulleda, featuring a cameo by Lamb of God’s D. Randall Blythe (who also shot the band photos. Album cover and other non-band pics by Alex). Odd-time signatures, fiery interplay, and inspired soloing capture the disjointed yet exciting moment we’re all living in—a reflection of the record’s deeper message.
“Prove You’re Not a Robot represents our strongest work as a group,” says bandleader Alex Skolnick. “The compositions are some of the most challenging we’ve ever done, and the improvisations took us to new places. Nathan [Peck, bass] and Matt [Zebroski, drums] really
brought their A-game. We’re all incredibly proud of this one.”
Set for release in 2025, the album spans a rich palette of sounds and textures. Alongside originals like the uplifting Guiding Ethos and introspective closer Asking for a Friend, AST reimagines classics with their trademark inventive touch, including the first single, a bold rendition of Tom
Petty’s Breakdown and the boundary-defying mashup Armando’s Mood—a salute to Chick Corea and Steve Howe.
With its mix of dazzling guitar work (on instruments ranging from a
vintage 1935 L-00 acoustic to a pristine Sadowsky archtop) and genre-bending arrangements, the LP underscores why AST has become one of the most original voices in contemporary jazz crossover.
Formed in the early 2000s by world-renowned guitarist Alex Skolnick—best known as lead-guitarist and founding member of metal icons Testament—AST has built a reputation for dazzling live shows and innovative recordings that draw jazz aficionados and metal fans alike.
With global festival appearances, critical acclaim from outlets like Billboard, Downbeat, andJazziz, and endorsements from artists such as Rodrigo y Gabriela, the trio continues to expand the boundaries of what a modern jazz guitar group can be.
