Sink or Swim is a puzzle game, where you interact with the scenery in order to force a bunch of Lemmings, er, Baldies, erm.. guys - survivors - to the exit door. Its one of those games which gradually increases the difficulty, so lets see how far I get with this on a cold play.

I sometimes warm up for these games before recording them, and with some games this is essential (Amnios), but I used to have this back in the day - or at least I remember playing it, so I thought I'd just jump in and see what this is like for the novice. Surprisingly, I made it only as far as the first few levels, and Im sure I got through half of the boat back in the day. I cant remember anything about this, except for the fact the passwords are critical to get far, and the graphics are very nice throughout.
Facts:
=====
Here are some extra facts I found on the MobyGames website:
This game took 9 or 10 months of hard development.
Sink or Swim's main characters are Kevin Codner and the 'Dim Passengers'. Kevin Codner is an obvious Kevin Costner spoof, but 'Dim Passengers is a Kim Basinger pun which fails due to the actual pronunciation of Kim's name - 'Dim Pay-Singers' would be much closer to her real name - they could've set the game on a cruise ship to allow for that.
According to Andrew Drake who founded Odysseus Software (original developer of Sink or Swim for Amiga) they never received any royalties for the game. Despite this fact he was offered the chance to port the game over to the PC but refused because he couldn't afford to buy one.
Bonus Fact: It appeared as "S.S. Lucifer: Man Overboard" for the Megadrive/Genesis.
Danscore:
========
This is one of those games you can boot up on a boring afternoon, type in the next password, and just try for a while to get further. Scores arent as important as progress, and having memorised the perfect way to beat each level, its another memory maze like Rick Dangerous, Wizzy's Quest or Solomon's Key. The trial and error involved lots of people dying, often, which can be quite funny, but actually solving a puzzle can be quite difficult at first, especially on some of the later levels - where you'll be having to retry over and over. The graphics, sounds, and controls are all top quality, and I like how the characters are animated. If you can invest some time with this, then Sink or Swim can give some light entertainment over the longer term, and is accessible by anyone who likes platform puzzlers. There are a few control and ladder/rope clinging niggles, and being stuck on any level is not helped by the fact there are still no Longplays of this game on ANY platform. Generally I'd give this a Very Good rating of 7 out of 10, and I had more hours of fun with this title than a certain other platforming puzzler on the Amiga.
