The Sennheiser MD421 Kompakt has the great sound quality of the classic MD421 but with a more compact design, making it easier to position and mount on a drum kit.
In this video, I put these mics to the test with a direct sound demo and I also share my thoughts on its tone, build quality, and ease of use for mounting on drums.
For this demo, I’m using minimal processing- just a touch of EQ and compression in Logic to keep things natural. What you hear is as true to life as possible.
The mic delivers a warm low-end, focused mids, and a punchy attack, making it a strong choice for toms. I'm also impressed with the sound it captures on my snare drum as well.
