This special mini episode of WTFeature shows-off a very rare beauty: one of only two 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Type-K Kammback prototypes ever made.
This particular car was one of several prototypes brought out from GM's Heritage Collection to get some fresh air at the 2019 Trans Am Nationals.
The silver Type-K was one of two Pininfarina-built kammback Trans Ams made -- both of which used 1977/78 Trans Ams as their bases. GM had a gold car with tan/silver interior made, along with a sliver car that sported a red interior. According to Hemmings, the gold car was destroyed at some point leaving only the silver Type-K to remain. The red interior car was then fitted with '79 front and rear body upgrades as the car's design process was spanning several years.
Unfortunately the cost of mass-producing the kammback become too expensive, and the third gen F-body was being introduced in a few years -- both of which halted the Type-K from seeing production. A sad ending to what could have been a very ground-breaking final product. 🏁
