Modern BMWs are UGLY... Until They're Not

Lately, it seems as though BMW styling has become a bit of a mixed bag to put it nicely. BMW used to be a brand known for classy and purposeful looking luxury vehicles that handle better than the competition, and some of that athletic ability was conveyed in the styling. These days, most BMWs look weird for no reason, with garish features and sometimes ungainly proportions, and yet... over time they tend to grow on you. The current G80 series BMW M3 and BMW M4 are perfect examples of this trend because when they debuted with the enormous kidney grill people were instantly put off by the look; however, over time, the overall look of the BMW M3 in particular have proven to be some of the best recent BMW styling to date. Does that excuse the BMW grill? Not necessarily, but when you really think about it, the shock and awe of BMW's styling has been going on for twenty years at this point ever since the Chris Bangle era of design. While not all of his cars, like the BMW 7 series, have aged well, some of them like the BMW Z4 roadster are much more well regarded now than they initially were. Does this mean BMW will continue this trend? Well, it certainly seems that way for better or worse.
