New York Attorney General Letitia James has been hit with a federal criminal referral of alleged mortgage fraud.
Federal Housing FHFA Director William Pulte sent a letter to US Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.
In the missive sent by Pulte, he alleged James “falsified records” to get home loans for a Virginia property in 2023, claiming it was her “principal property".
The New York attorney general made the claim while she was serving as the city’s state prosecutor.
The letter noted a five-family Brooklyn home James bought in 2001 has “consistently misrepresented the same property as only having four units.”
James allegedly “misrepresented” how many units the property had “in both building permit applications and numerous mortgage documents and applications.”
Pulte also allegedly found a property James bought with her father as a co-signer in 1983 and 2000, but they falsely listed themselves as “husband and wife”.
“While this was a long time ago, it raises serious concerns about the validity of Ms James representations on mortgage application,” Pulte wrote.
White Collar Fraud first broke the news about Pulte alleging James falsified her residence status to get lower mortgage rates for her Virginia and Brooklyn homes.
