Within minutes, streets turned into rivers — water rushing past curbs and flooding crossroads around Avenida de Tirajana and the Yumbo area. “Claudia” is the name given by AEMET (the Spanish Meteorological Agency) to a new Atlantic low-pressure system declared a borrasca de gran impacto — a “high-impact storm.”
It formed west of the Canary Islands and began pushing moist, unstable air toward the archipelago on November 12–13, bringing:

Heavy and persistent rainfall

Strong winds, especially in mountainous and coastal areas

Rough seas and high waves along the southern and western coasts

Local flooding and temporary power outages

The arrival over Gran Canaria was earlier and stronger than expected — the south and southwest, including Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, and Arguineguín, saw some of the heaviest rainfall so far this season.
