Jyotirlingas are sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, where He is worshipped in the form of a Jyoti or divine light. The word is derived from:
“Jyoti” meaning radiance or light
“Linga” meaning symbol of Shiva
According to Hindu tradition, there are 12 Jyotirlingas, each believed to be a place where Shiva manifested as an infinite pillar of light. These holy sites are spread across India and are considered extremely powerful and spiritually significant.
🌼 Spiritual Significance
Visiting all Dwadasa Jyotirlingas is believed to remove sins, grant liberation (moksha), and bring divine blessings.
Each temple holds a unique legend (sthala purana) showcasing Shiva’s compassion, might, and protection of His devotees.
The Jyotirlinga is said to represent Shiva’s formless, endless, infinite nature.
