This place was right on my doorstep but I only learnt about it a few years ago thanks to my Dad who joined me on this explore. The history behind this place is incredible, I won't be sharing the location as this place is already in a bad state of what's left anyway.
Around 950,000 British women worked in munitions factories during the Second World War, making weapons like shells and bullets. Munitions work was often well-paid but involved long hours, sometimes up to seven days a week. Workers were also at serious risk from accidents with dangerous machinery or when working with highly explosive material.
These women were known as the 'Canary Girls' after the TNT they worked with stained their hair and skin yellow, many also suffered a host of health conditions resulting from chemical exposure.
For more information on this place feel free to message me/comment below if you have any questions!
