In November 2025, the GIZ Moving Pictures Project in collaboration with African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) through Creative Africa Nexus - CANEX Creations Inc invited Kenyan and Rwandan film industry practitioners and entertainment lawyers to two key workshops. A Content Acquisition Contracts Workshop facilitated by Content Acquisition & Distribution Specialist Heta James and a Film Distribution Contracts, Marketing & Festival Strategies workshop facilitated by Okada Media's co-founders Serge Noukoue and Nadira Shakur.
The workshops were a deliberate effort to train and capacity build the African film ecosystem on key contracts used in the distribution value chain and intellectual property rights management. They also addressed the knowledge gap on content acquisition and distribution deals for independent African films and by extension make them economically beneficial and sustainable for filmmakers.
About the GIZ Moving Pictures Project
The GIZ financed Project Moving Pictures is being implemented in Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Germany. The main objective of the project is to ensure that narratives from the three African countries are given a wider reach through better regional and international distribution of independent films from Kenya, Nigeria and Rwanda. The target group for this initiative is independent film producers, social impact producers, sales agents, film distributors, film aggregators, film exhibitors, film marketers, film journalists and PR platforms.
