Citizen Promaster caliber 6840 uses a bi-directional chrono seconds hand and a flag system to provide a quick visual reference to time remaining. Also, chimes are used to provide audible cues. At the start of the countdown, the chrono seconds hand will flyback to zero, and begin moving backwards. As the countdown reaches zero, the race chronometer starts. The seconds hand begins to move clockwise, and the blue arc records race minutes.
The Memosail is powered by the Valjoux 7737, a modification of the then-popular caliber 7733/7734. The chrono seconds hand always moves clockwise. The minute counter arc provides a quick reference to time remaining; it advances every 30 seconds. There is no audible signal given by this movement.
