Can a VR boxing workout burn more calories than running, weightlifting, or even real boxing? In this video, I put a VR boxing workout to the test using the boxing game Thrill of the Fight 2. This is a full boxing workout at home, combining boxing fitness and virtual reality to see how many calories a VR workout can really burn.

I train for a full hour in my living room, throwing punches in virtual reality while wearing a heart rate monitor to track calories burned. I spar different opponents, including a virtual sparring partner, VR boxing champion, and even an online stranger, to see if this interactive boxing fitness cardio workout can outperform traditional training methods.

Throughout this intense home boxing workout, you will see me sweating and my calorie counter climbing. The experience feels like a real boxing session. I am ducking, jabbing, and throwing hooks nonstop. It is so immersive that I barely notice how hard I am working until I check the monitor. In just 33 minutes, I burned 500 calories, already beating what I would normally burn in an hour of weight training. By the 52 minute mark, I had surpassed the calories burned from an hour of running at 6 miles per hour and even an hour of traditional boxing training in the gym. This VR boxing workout kept my heart rate high and proved to be a serious cardio challenge.

By the end of the 60 minute VR session, the total calorie burn was higher than many common workouts of the same length. For comparison, one hour of VR boxing burned more calories than:
-Running at 6 miles per hour
-Traditional boxing training in a gym
-Weightlifting or weight training
-Cycling on a bike
-Lap swimming
-Power yoga
-HIIT workouts

Yes, this VR boxing workout even outperformed HIIT session. The only workouts left to test were jump rope and faster running, but my tracker stopped before I could confirm those results. Regardless, the takeaway is clear. A VR boxing workout at home can deliver serious boxing fitness and calorie burn when done at high intensity.
