"La campagne à présent n'est pas beaucoup fleurie" (The countryside isn't very flowery right now)
Reynaldo Hahn (1874–1947) was a Venezuelan-born French composer, singer, conductor, and one of the great masters of the French mélodie. Celebrated for the poetic beauty of “Si mes vers avaient des ailes,” written at just fourteen, Hahn became a beloved figure in fin-de-siècle Paris, moving in circles that included Sarah Bernhardt and Marcel Proust. His music—spanning songs, operettas, orchestral works, chamber music, and piano pieces—combines elegance, clarity, and emotional restraint. After being overlooked for several decades, Hahn’s work is now enjoying a major revival, with his songs and piano music frequently performed and recorded.
