Homemade Chicken Nuggets Recipe
1 pound ground chicken
4 tablespoons fresh breadcrumbs, or 1 slice white bread
4 tablespoons milk or cream
1 large egg, lightly whisked
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for seasoning
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
Flour, as needed for dredging
Oil, as needed for frying
Your favorite sauce, for serving
Place the chicken in a medium mixing bowl.
In a second bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk and allow to sit a few minutes to soften. Add the egg and mix well. Stir this into the chicken along with the celery salt, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper and mix thoroughly.
Scoop mixture into small portions (about 1 heaping tablespoon each) onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Pat to form into flattened nugget shapes, then refrigerate to thoroughly chill.
Place the flour in a shallow bowl and season. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.
Working in batches, dredge the nuggets in the seasoned flour to coat.
Cook the nuggets in batches until golden on both sides and chicken is cooked through.
Serves 4 to 6
