Just a baby snapping turtle — or the next Godzilla in training?
Snapping turtles are one of Colorado’s oldest native species, thriving in ponds, lakes, and wetlands across the state. They play a vital role in their ecosystems, helping maintain balance by feeding on insects, fish, and decaying matter—nature’s own cleanup crew. Despite their tough appearance, these turtles are shy by nature and prefer calm, undisturbed waters.
At Northern Colorado Wildlife Center, we’re proud to care for and rehabilitate native species like snapping turtles, ensuring they can continue their essential roles in the wild. Through rescue, rehabilitation, and release, we’re not only helping individual animals—we’re protecting the natural systems that sustain all life.
