Time, Equity, and "Noticing and Naming" | Professor Jane Bertrand

Not having enough time is the biggest problem Professor Jane Bertrand keeps hearing from early childhood leaders. They are struggling to find time to provide quality pedagogical leadership. In this video, Jane offers her best advice for ECE leaders.

Leaders need to think about maximizing face-to-face time with educators. Can we avoid spending this precious time on administration, and instead use it to guide and inspire quality pedagogy? Admin can be done by email!

Jane also gives her thoughts on creating diverse leadership teams. How can we take equity seriously and pay attention to all the different people and cultures that make up our early learning spaces?

Finally Jane leaves us with a simple but effective technique to ensure daily pedagogical improvements. “Noticing and naming” is about taking a moment every single time you enter a room to notice something positive and name it for the educators. This positive reinforcement helps to steer and strengthen the quality of early learning.
