My grandson Greyson and I did this Hermit Creek/Hermit Rapids 3-night backpack trip in late May of 2025, as soon as Greyson got out of school for the summer. We knew it was going to be hot, so a priority was to do short days, timing it to hike in the shade or at night and resting/cooling off in the creek as much as possible during the days. This strategy worked well since daytime temps at the river reached 107 degrees F. Also, we were fortunate to grab the shadiest campsite at Hermit Creek, which helped a lot!
The next day we climbed the Battleship Butte in late afternoon and into the night, which has also been posted on YouTube.
