The safety at the beaches this festive season has been a big concern for most coastal municipalities in the Eastern Cape. Still, the province has made some improvements to ensure the security of the beachgoers. The province is home to some of the country's most popular beaches, forcing municipalities to tighten their security. More people are expected on the beaches and their safety is at the forefront of the municipalities along the coastline. Meanwhile, the Port St Johns local municipality has resolved to close its parking area next to the Beach as a way of intensifying safety measures at the beach. The aim is also to lessen congestion, as many people will head to the beach for the New Year. Officials say the second Beach has limited parking space and it will be closed from today until 2 January 2024. SABC News Reporter Fundiswa Mhlekude is monitoring Port St Johns Beach, which normally has several incidents during this time of the year.
