Welcome back to RBR! Today we explore Mercedes-AMG’s most extreme SL ever made: the SL63 S E Performance. A plug-in hybrid monster using AMG’s P3 system, it delivers headline figures of 816 horsepower, 1420Nm of torque, and a mind-bending 0–60 time of 2.5 seconds tested— smashing the AMG ONE! All in a drop-top cruiser.

But does an SL even need this much power? Perhaps in a world where the 911 Turbo S exists it does... But was this particular hybrid set up the right way to achieve that?

I'm also not sure about the naming here, I mean, SL 63 S E Performance... too much of a mouthful: why not SL73 continuing from the past V12 cars found in the R129 SL cars? And why is the body styling identical to the much cheaper 63 and 55? These are some of many questions I need answered.
