용머리 해안 (Yongmeori Coast)

Yongmeori Coast, located on the southwestern edge of Jeju Island, gets its name from its shape resembling a dragon’s head stretching into the sea.
Formed over millions of years through volcanic eruptions and marine erosion, the coast features horizontal layers of sedimentary rock and volcanic ash, creating a surreal, striated landscape.
It’s often called a library of time, where each layer tells a story from Earth’s deep past.
Because access is only possible during low tide, visiting this place means following the natural rhythm of the sea and time itself.


용머리해안은 제주도 서남쪽 해안에 위치한 특별한 지형으로, 바다를 향해 길게 뻗은 용의 머리를 닮았다고 해서 이름 붙여졌습니다.
수천만 년 전의 화산 활동과 침식 작용으로 만들어진 이곳은, 수평 방향으로 층층이 쌓인 퇴적암과 화산재가 독특한 암석층을 형성하고 있어 마치 시간이 켜켜이 쌓인 자연의 도서관을 연상시킵니다.
밀물 때는 입장이 제한되기 때문에, 자연과 시간의 리듬에 맞춰야만 접근할 수 있는 신비로운 해안이기도 합니다.
