‘What brings us to believe that Christianity is the exclusive way to truth?’

“There’s not an infinite number of answers to the question you have raised,” Ravi begins. “There’s the Judeo Christian world-view, there’s the Islamic world-view, there’s the pantheistic world-views – Hinduism, Buddhism and many of the other ‘isms’ where every life is a rebirth and the karmatic law is at work.”

“We often think that all religions are fundamentally the same and only superficially different. It’s actually the opposite which is true. They are fundamentally different and at best only superficially similar.”

“Your world-view is a set of lenses through which you look at reality. Whether you think about it or not, you’re always looking through those lenses. And that world-view has been framed by answering four questions:

1. Origin
2. Meaning
3. Morality
4. Destiny

The one question you’re looking for is the answer to the truth. What is the truth? How do you come to the truth? Philosophy will tell you there’s the correspondence theory and the coherence theory. Statements you make about specific answers have to correspond to reality and when all those answers are put together there has to be a coherence to these answers. If there’s a systemic contradiction, you will pick it up immediately.”

“Why is it that Jesus Christ is so exclusive and unique? Right in the time of Jesus, the entire Gospel was captured in one hymn. It is the earliest complete Gospel we have. Interestingly enough, in a hymn that they sang, Paul repeats it [in Philippians 2:6-11]:
You do not get that imperative and that intrinsic worth from any other world-view. You are made in the image of God. I have no means of justification by which I can violate you.”

“So your intrinsic worth, your departure from purpose. What is the remedy? The remedy is when grace and truth [come together]: I am a creature in need of forgiveness. You are a creature in need of forgiveness. And when Jesus looks at his murderers and says, ‘Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’”

“What you are really finding out is the four absolutes we look for: evil, justice, love and forgiveness are answered in the life, death, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

“So he diagnoses your malady, gives to you the way of the cure, builds into your life that proclivity for following Him and embracing His truth, and enables you to love your neighbour as yourself – even in the disagreements in which we live.”
