NUEVO, Calif. (TRW-Media) - Today at approximately 1:55 pm, CalFire / Riverside County Fire Department (RVC Fire) received several 911 calls reporting a fire. The callers reported a vegetation fire in the area of Ramona Expressway and Pico Avenue near Lake Perris State Recreation Area. Several engines and personnel responded to the scene. Air Attack 301 (AA301) several air tankers, and a helicopter, from Hemet Ryan Air Attack Base, arrived on-scene for the initial attack of the fire's northern flank. Helicopter 301 dropped off its hand crew to start battling the blaze.
Several more engines, dozers and hand crews arrived on-scene to surround the fire. It was contained to approximately 16 acres. Crews will remain on-scene for the mop upstage. Dozer 3140 and 3141 are cutting in a defensive perimeter around the fire. There were no reports of injuries and no structures threatened. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
