uGH THESE TWO!!! (THEY HAVE DAUGHTERS, I REPEAT, THEY HAVE DAUGHTERS)

I knew when Tom and Erica made cameos in Crisis, I had to eventually rewatch Smallville so I could edit them. Mild disclaimer - I've only made it through 9x06 so far, so anything that's been added past that (i.e. when they're actually a couple) I'm doing from decade-old memory, so if it's lacking in any way, that's partially to blame.

I know there are some who complain about Clark and Lois meeting their senior(ish) year in high school opposed to the Daily Planet when they're older...but it couldn't be me! I personally think that was one of the smartest decisions the show made over 10 seasons. It enabled them to grow into their intertwined destinies in a way that felt entirely natural, yet fated at the same time. From bickering reluctant allies trying to figure out what happened to Chloe (Clark's bestfriend/Lois' cousin), to tentative friends who were shown to care and understand each other better than even they themselves ever could, to co-workers at the Daily Planet, to falling for each other and finally to being each other's HOME.... there really isn't a couple on any show (for me, at least) that demonstrates such positive, substantial growth.

(And don't even get me started on the FORESHADOWING and PARALLELS - I barely managed to scratch the surface in a five and a half minute video. THAT should speak volumes.)

Yeah, they teased each other and butted heads their first few seasons, but once they admitted to themselves that there was something between them they'd never found in anyone else - belonging, acceptance, compassion, completeness, absolute trust - they moved quickly. If I remember correctly, after Clark told Lois his secret, it literally took them a grand total of 6 episodes to get back together, sleep together for the first time, move in together, AND get engaged?!

I know there will be someone in the comments who will try and preach to me how much better Clark and Lana were, and if any of you liked them together, that's fine. I just know the main reason that I ship Clois and don't ship Clana is because of just how well Clark and Lois fit together even though they shouldn't and how much Lois influenced and encouraged Clark to become Superman and embrace his destiny.

Throughout the 7(+ since she was in 5 episodes of season 8) seasons she was on the show, Lana ALWAYS took issue with Clark's secretiveness, even when they weren't together. While I do believe she was entitled to them whilst they were together, I think her pushing him while they weren't was unfair to Clark, because he didn't owe her anything. Do I dislike Lana as a character? I used to vehemently think so. (My mom and I used to argue Clois v Clana when I was younger, so trust me when I say I'm not their biggest fan.). But after rewatching the show as an adult - even as select as I was in my episode choice - I realized that I'd immaturely misjudged her purely by looking at her through ship-colored glasses. Lana is a fantastic, badass, strong, empowered, inspiring female character...but she really displayed that and showed her full potential when she wasn't with Clark and vice versa.

I feel like, while the feelings they shared as each other's first loves were real and vitally important to who they'd later become, they held onto them for far too long - so long that whenever they were together, they simply didn't make any forward development. I think they both held each other back because what they shared was safe and familiar, almost like a safety blanket in a sense. Lois on the other hand challenged Clark at every turn and pushed him out of said 'small town farmboy' comfort zone and helped him realize his true potential whilst standing shoulder to shoulder with him the entire way. THAT is real, true love - standing by someone no matter what - and THAT is why I prefer Clois over Clana, even with legendary comic book endgame status aside.
