Mumbai Metro Line 6 (also known as the Pink Line) is a highly anticipated fully elevated metro corridor designed to revolutionize east-west connectivity in Mumbai's suburbs. Spanning approximately 15.18–15.31 km with 13 elevated stations, it connects Swami Samarth Nagar (in Lokhandwala, Andheri West) to Vikhroli (EEH) on the Eastern Express Highway, passing through key areas like Jogeshwari, JVLR (Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road), SEEPZ, Powai, and Kanjurmarg.
Here are some stunning glimpses of the ongoing construction, elevated viaducts, and progress along the JVLR corridor:
The line runs mostly along the median of the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR), one of Mumbai's busiest east-west arteries notorious for chronic traffic jams. A unique engineering feat includes a 2.58 km combined road flyover and metro viaduct on single piers from Swami Samarth Nagar to Mahakali Caves, optimizing space in the densely packed city. The alignment features numerous curves and steep gradients due to undulated terrain, making it one of India's highest metro lines with pillars averaging 16m and reaching up to 38m (tallest in India at Gandhi Nagar, Kanjurmarg).
Stations List (from West to East):
Swami Samarth Nagar
Adarsh Nagar
Jogeshwari (W)
JVLR
Shyam Nagar
Mahakali Caves
SEEPZ Village
Saki Vihar Road
Rambaug
Powai Lake
IIT Powai
Kanjurmarg (W)
Vikhroli (EEH)
This corridor offers crucial interchanges with other lines: Yellow Line 2A at Adarsh Nagar, Red Line 7 at JVLR, Aqua Line 3 at SEEPZ (Aarey Depot area), and Green Line 4 at Kanjurmarg. It also connects to suburban rail at Jogeshwari (Western Line) and Kanjurmarg (Central Line), plus proximity to WEH and EEH for seamless multimodal travel.
Current Status (as of January 2026)
Construction is in advanced stages, with significant progress on viaducts (over 90% in many sections), stations (around 79%), and entry/exit structures. Trial runs and safety inspections by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) are underway, though full operations face minor delays for rectification and final approvals. MMRDA targets full operational status by mid-2026, potentially starting with restricted frequency (every 6 minutes) while the Kanjurmarg depot is finalized using interim "pocket line" arrangements. The project, costing around ₹6,672–6,716 crore, will deploy modern 6-coach trains (108 coaches total) with CBTC signalling, air-conditioning, platform screen doors, lifts/escalators, and accessibility features.
nce fully operational, Line 6 is expected to serve lakhs of daily commuters, slashing JVLR travel time by 30–45 minutes, reducing road congestion, pollution, and accidents while boosting economic activity in Andheri, Powai, SEEPZ, and Vikhroli. This game-changing east-west link will make Mumbai's suburbs feel much closer — a true lifeline for daily commuters and office-goers! 🚇🌆 #MumbaiMetro6 #PinkLine #MumbaiInfra
