"Severe storms swept through Islamabad, Pakistan, with unbridled fury, unleashing a relentless hailstorm that pounded the city with deafening intensity. The skies darkened as nature unleashed its wrath, leaving behind a trail of shattered glass, damaged vehicles, and stunned residents."
A powerful and unrelenting hailstorm struck Islamabad late Wednesday evening, leaving the capital city in chaos as severe thunderstorms swept the region with alarming intensity. The storm, which developed rapidly over the Margalla Hills, brought heavy rains, gale-force winds, and a barrage of large hailstones that pelted rooftops, vehicles, and streets for nearly an hour. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had issued a warning earlier in the day about potential severe weather, but few anticipated the scale and ferocity of the storm that unfolded. By nightfall, the skies turned ominously dark, followed by a sudden and violent downpour. The hailstorm began shortly thereafter, with some hailstones reported to be as large as golf balls, causing significant damage to cars, windows, and even outdoor infrastructure. Emergency services were inundated with distress calls as residents sought help for flooded streets, fallen trees, and power outages. Several neighborhoods, including G-10, F-6, and I-8 sectors, reported prolonged electricity disruptions due to damaged transmission lines. Roadways were rendered nearly impassable in some areas due to accumulated hail and debris, bringing traffic to a near standstill. Videos shared on social media captured the ferocity of the storm, with scenes of hail blanketing the roads like snow, and deafening crashes echoing across the city as ice smashed against metal and glass. The storm also disrupted flight schedules at Islamabad International Airport, with at least six domestic and international flights delayed or rerouted due to low visibility and safety concerns. Residents described the experience as terrifying. “It felt like the sky was falling. The sound of hail hitting our windows was like gunfire,” said Sana Ali, a resident of the F-8 sector. “We’ve never seen anything like this in years.”
