In today's video we explore a 1998 Mackie HUI unit that was primarily designed for the Pro Tools eco system. This Mackie HUI controller is meant to make the mixing process easier by adding a variety of different buttons to access certain windows and parameters. Perfect for any mixing engineer that uses Pro Tools as a daily driver. You can quickly access the mix window, session window, plugins, and this control surface even has a section for Pro Tools shortcuts that can be achieved through this mixing board. The idea was eliminate the disconnected feeling you get when mixing in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) & help improve the workflow by providing you plenty of accessible buttons. Although the unit was built for an older version of Pro Tools, because it runs an HUI protocol, this means this unit can run on a more modern version of Pro Tools and still give you the same functionality. It's a great unit that has plenty of I/O & can honestly be useful in a pro or home recording studio but this one that I purchased second hand for some future recording projects has been giving me some problems. I believe it's a calibration problem that I spent hours trying to fix. I wanted to give some insight on the Mackie HUI and my experience, so I hope you enjoy the video.
