Size
A single lovebird needs a cage that's at least 18 in x 18 in x 24 in
A pair of lovebirds needs a cage that's at least 32 in x 20 in x 20 in
The space between the bars should be no more than 5/8 in
Material
The cage should be made of a bird-safe material, such as stainless steel or wire mesh
Avoid cages made of wood or galvanized wire, which can release toxic chemicals
Perches
Provide a variety of perch sizes to help exercise the bird's feet and prevent arthritis
Sand or concrete perches can help keep the bird's nails trimmed
Other features
Include food and water bowls
Include an area for the bird to bathe
Include a cage that's well-ventilated but protected from drafts and direct sunlight
Include a cage that's easy to clean, such as with pull-out floors or disposable trays
Temperature
The ideal temperature range for lovebirds is 70–80°F
