In a flashback, a mother learns her son Jeff was one of the shooters at River Hill High, killed during the attack, and six years later, she reflects in an interview that she could have stopped it if she'd recognized his mental distress and warning signs. At a boxing gym, Hondo (Shemar Moore) and Deacon (Jay Harrington) are working out when the LAPD receive a letter from Jeff's mother containing a passage from her son's leaked manifesto and a new threat: a copycat shooter plans to "honor Jeff by amassing a higher body count with the same gun". Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit) notes six kids died originally, but Hondo corrects him to seven including the shooter, as they realize the attack is imminent.
