Sail Darwin - Cairns Episode 1: Darwin - Wessel Islands

Welcome back to our channel for our newest travelling series!

In our last video we were exploring the beauty of Esperance, WA when we got a call from our good mate Antho. He asked us to help him sail his boat back home to the East coast from Darwin. Of course we said YES, despite having little to no sailing experience we couldn't pass up the opportunity even though it meant cutting our lap of Aus short.

We drove home from WA in a few days and flew up to Darwin to meet Antho. We had a rocky start with Cyclone Fina holding us up, unable to leave Darwin for 10 days. Ourselves and the boat were luckily not harmed in the cyclone so we left as soon as the cyclone had passed. We crossed the Van Diemen Gulf and sailed into the Arafura Sea were we caught a variety of fish on the troll. We eased into sailing life as we were blessed with light winds and smooth conditions! We quickly learnt the basics of sailing and the fun of back to back to back night shifts.

It was all worth it when we pulled up anchor at the Wessel Islands, a remote and beautiful part of Arnhem Land. We enjoyed fishing, diving, croc spotting and a good nights rest.
