The Stationary Compactors of Melbourne City - NZ Rubbish Trucks Goes Travelling

It would not be one of my great Aussie (Australia) adventures without me checking out the range of stationary compactors that widely used in Australia at shopping malls and where shops or food outlets are in close proximity to one another.

Stationary compactors such as these are not common in New Zealand, usually only found around large mall complexes and are often hidden away behind unaccusable walls. Not the case in Australia where they are often left out and visible. Melbourne is known for its street art and it was cool to see one of the compactors which is out in a very visible location being dressed up to impress.

In both situations of the keycard compactors, I asked the operators if I could film them loading their waste and the compactor running. The key card gives access to the compactor which weighs the waste being loaded before it is compacted. As a community compactor, they key card keeps records of who uses it and how much waste they are loading into it which they will be invoiced for later on by the provider.

The third compactor was located in a mall situation. Sadly I had just missed it being loaded but did get to film the auger style compactor still in motion after it has been recently loaded.

I had a little bit of footage from the Melbourne train station. This footage did not really fit into any of my rubbish truck or stationary compactor projects but thought it was kind of cool, so tacked it on to the end of this. Sadly I had a train to catch so didn't get the end of him driving off with his fully loaded mini dumpsters.
