Tapestry of Dreams (Nighttime Parade, 2002) | Epcot | Walt Disney World

Tapestry of Dreams was Epcot's 100 Years Of Magic parade (celebrating Walt's 100th birthday), a heavily reworked version of Tapestry of Nations. It ran from September 2001 to March 2003.

This is actually a pretty interesting video. You really only get the "night" version of this parade from fall to spring. During the summer, the sun stays up so late (Walt Disney World is on the western side of the Eastern Time Zone and is closer to the equator), that the late parade is mostly done in daylight and dusk.


Here's a caveat. This was never supposed to be a video of the parade. I was shooting insert shots for a larger Walt Disney World video I was planning. (Some of this is pretty apparent, lol.)

See, the problem was, Illuminations was always directly after the parade. If you were in a good spot to tape the late parade, then all the good spots for Illuminations would be taken by the time the parade was done. Nothing kept me from taping Illuminations from a different perspective...

But this was taped in March, a relatively slow time at Disney World. I could get some clips of the parade at night, in the dark. The first video was taped as I was camped out by the lagoon's edge near Germany. I was there with someone, so I could get away early in the parade while she "reserved" my spot, but went back to the edge of the lagoon when things got crowded. I had all 27 minutes of the parade taped, so it was the baseline parade.

The other, I was actually walking around the lagoon looking for a good spot for Illuminations, so I followed the parade, but ultimately didn't tape the end of the parade, because I wasn't near a backstage entrance.

The two tapings were synchronized, and the video was cut back and forth between the two. So everything shown is in the correct order and place within the parade.

The last few minutes or so of the parade su... isn't that good, since it's taken from the Lagoon's edge though the gathering crowds, with no other available video. On the other hand, some of the parade looks really good.

So this became my only night version of any Tapestry parade. Though some of the elements have their own lighting, when the puppets get into the spotlights they look pretty spectacular.

The audio has been mostly overlaid to mask differing ambient audio depending on location, crowd noise and local conversations. (See the daytime parade description for more details.)
