What a day and what a run!

Somehow I ended up going past Alison without knowing it... Not somehow we know now, she was on the other side of the island as I went past. I thought after not seeing her that she must have gotten in at the end before me but that wasn't the case, Essentially her and Matt got in at the same time perhaps and hour? after me. I had enough time to capture them on the drone before they got in.

Boy has this run been a great find! best on the southerly but also doable in the SW especially if it howling. Mind you we have cut it short a few times by heading in at Martins bay... about 11km into the run. It's pretty annoying that Martins is essentially the same drive as Jones Bay... both about an hour drive in the same direction but coastal roads being costal roads... navigating around inlets and such but the on water distance is very different. One being about 11km the other being more like 22km. So bang for buck you kinda wanna make the longer run work if you can.

Thats right, I just had a quick scroll through the vid... I had thought I might be able to use the 1160 fireball for this one but actually the end was a bit tricky even for the 1250... so the 1160 might have been fatiguing towards the end.

That has me thinking. Do I need to be acing these runs? I mean I used the 1250 and it was fun (slight handful with the 40 skinny vs the 50 on the 56cm fuse) but what if I didn't feel the need to always be on foil?

Say the run has three parts which I guess this one does.

Smaller low fetch start, a couple kms maybe
Great lined up middle 10km - especially in a S wind
Tricky last 5-6km due to island inlets and currents\bounce

so then what? How do you size? The 1250 did the job flawlessly...especially had I sized my stab or fuse better for more surfing feels...

but what if the 1160fb suited the middle section? I guess one needs to weigh up everything... is it worth working harder at the front and rare end? If so go for it I guess! you might need a rest and to rid differently in parts but is that so bad? I know a lot of guys default to this sort or selection whether thought out or not. They want the smallest possible foil they can get away with! Some might not know another way!

Perhaps my ego is somewhat holding me back here or my sensibilities! The need to make it easy or doable in one push... I think I know what is brining this thought to mind... racing... I have somewhat caught the bug enough for it to seep into my thoughts! Ive been thinking about practicing with smaller foils and getting them to work. In the scenario above is say the 1250 is the safe bet for racing and having a good average time, but a beast would likely make the smaller foil work in the not ideal parts and smash out the middle...

Im more now thinking I can practice with a smaller foil to test my limits! hmm. I can see a little pain in my future!!
