Yes, you read that right. Hammerhead's special only does 11 damage on contact. However, that's only done when the front or back of his wheels hit another car. Hammerhead can do more damage by trampling the opponent, and if he manages to trap someone in his body, he does as much ram damage as any other big car, which is to say: Crushes them like a bug.
However, Hammerhead can do more with his trample than just a little extra damage. It makes him a good combo rammer. If you've ever felt the mine-type weapons to be useless, try planting them on an opponent's head while you're trampling them with Hammerhead. Mines will give you plenty of extra damage, spikes will slow down the opponent to make followups a little easier as well as doing a bit of extra damage, and oil slicks can more or less trap them in place, allowing for much easier followups. He can also make good use of the rear flame this way too, and thus he's my favorite car to utilize the weapon with.
Hammerhead does, however, have much of the same weaknesses as Darkside, if with slightly better turning than her. He has no range whatsoever without any missiles, and thus can greatly struggle to close the distance against the speedy types. He can also be fairly easily kept out of reach by weapons that cause stagger, as he's an easy target for them due to his large size and slow speed.
Hammerhead is a fun car. For what he is and what he does, I think I prefer Darkside overall, but he's a different flavor of her to me. There's a surprising amount of depth to his special for what it looks like on paper, and he'll always have a place in my heart. Plus, as a poly lesbian, I relate to him. I too want babes.
Played on Hard mode. This was played on a PlayStation Classic, and save states were used for convenience, but only between level transitions and the "Boss Approaching" screens. I'm trying to go deathless until the Fight For Your Life, where I will actually allow myself to die, because this fight is really hard. 5 enemies in the Arena map with naught but fire missiles, land mines, oil, and a single homing missile pickup? It's hard, but it's kinda fun, if a bit chaotic.
